My Time as a Davis Catalyst Web Developer
In my web development journey, I've gained extensive experience in building websites and expanding my
career in the field. Thanks to my teacher Derrek Bitner, a fantastic web development teacher, boss, and
friend, my growth has been tremendous. At the Catalyst, teachers don't feel like teachers. I've grown to
know Bitner as a friend, not just a teacher. He likes to watch us struggle and learn on our own, helping
us manage projects and handle clients. He loves his job, and I wouldn't want anyone else to be my Web
Development teacher at the Catalyst.
As part of my coursework, I have had the opportunity to work with real-life clients, providing them with
fantastic, professionally built websites free of charge.
My very first client was the Travelers Motel in Kanab, Utah. I communicated with the clients to
understand their needs and built a beautiful website for them. Unfortunately, the owners retired soon
after, and the website was shut down. During that time, I also created my original portfolio website,
which I was very proud of. However, as I continued to grow in the field, I decided to expand and
completely remodel my portfolio to showcase my improved skills.
Following the Travelers Motel project, I took on another client, Abby Stephens, a motivational speaker
from Utah. Abby had an older website that needed to be updated and remodeled. I happily took on the
project, using Squarespace to create a modern and visually appealing website for her. The website looks
fantastic to this day, and you can check it out at abbystephens.net. If you like my work, feel free to
email me, and we can discuss potential business opportunities.
Additionally, I serve as the web developer for Houston Merrill, an aspiring country artist. Houston
needed a website to announce his work and sell merchandise. Using Shopify and purchasing the domain from
GoDaddy, I developed and grew his website into what it is today. You can see my work at
houstonmerrill.com.
These are just a few of the many web development experiences I have been a part of. To see more of my
work and the various Catalyst projects I've completed, please visit my portfolio page. If you are
